David and 'Cheika' have been friends for over 30 years. Their friendship began at the formidable and dominant Sydney Rugby Club - Randwick where they both played 1st Grade Rugby. Cheika had never coached before but in 1999 Davud brought his attention to a coaching job in Italy where David was based. He applied for it and was successful. Cheika and Knox coached Petrarca Padova through a Heineken Cup campaign.
Michael Cheika (born 4 March 1967) is an Australian rugby union coach and a former rugby player. He is currently coach of the Australian national team. Cheika has Lebanese ancestry. He is the only coach to have won the major rugby club competition in each hemisphere, winning the Heineken Cup with Leinster in 2009 and the Super Rugby competition with the New South Wales Waratahs in 2014. During his career, Cheika was also head coach at Padova, Randwick and Stade Français.
